Basics

  • Be at least 16
  • Be at least 21 to drive a bus, haul hazardous material, and drive out of state
  • Pass all written exams
  • Pass vision test

Documents

  • Commercial driver’s license 
  • Proof of U.S citizenship or lawful permanent residency
  • Have doctor approved by FMCSA complete medical examiner’s certificate
  • Self-Certify that you are fit to drive
  • Bring 2 documents of identification
  • Have proper medical paperwork with you

Payments

  • Written exam $70
  • Under 65 years old $34 valid for 5 years
  • 65 years old or older $28 for 4 years
  • Endorsements $20 each
