Have you been thinking about beefing up your qualifications by adding on an endorsement or two? Well, a Doubles/Triples endorsement just might be the right fit for you. Here’s everything you need to know about acquiring a Doubles/Triples endorsement.

What is a Doubles/Triples Endorsement?

A Doubles/Triples endorsement is a certification that allows you to drive a semi-truck with multiple trailers attached. Hauling doubles or triples means you’re pulling 2 or 3 trailers with the same tractor.

How to get Doubles/Triples Endorsement

If you want to pull double or triple trailers, you must add the Doubles/Triples (T) endorsement to your Class A CDL. To obtain the T endorsement, you’ll first need to have a valid CDL in your state. You must fully understand the basic operating principles of a double trailer such as how to assemble and connect the units, and how to handle and stabilize the vehicle. Once you understand the fundamentals, you must take the knowledge test and earn a passing score to receive your T endorsement.

What to Expect on the Exam

The Doubles/Triples test consists of 20 questions in most states. To pass, you’ll need to score at least an 80%, which means answering at least 16 questions correctly. A few elements and topics you can expect to see are coupling and uncoupling trailers, inspecting trucks and trailers, using air brakes, and driving in poor conditions with multiple trailers. Each state gives its own variation of the exam, but most of the topics are consistent. Check out the resources we have linked below to find doubles and triples practice tests for you state
